For businesses that charter or borrow other people's aircraft policies, you have non-owned aircraft liability exposures. With chartered aircraft the exposures are mainly contingent liabilities since the charter customer is not directly involved with the operation and maintenance of the aircraft. Many businesses allow employees who are pilots to use personal aircraft on company business. This direct exposure can create substantial gaps in coverage for the business.
For pilots that rent or borrow other people's aircraft, you have non-owned aircraft hull and liability exposures. If you are flying someone's else plane under the terms of their Open Pilot Warranty, you can be sued and the insurance company could subrogate against for the claim. This direct exposure can create substantial gaps in coverage for the business.
For CFIs that instruct in others' aircraft, you have non-owned aircraft hull and liability exposures. You could be alleged to have provided negligent instruction to former students if they have an accident. This direct exposure can create substantial gaps in coverage for the business.
