FAQs

If you have added custom parts to your motorcycle, collector car, boats, snowmobile, etc., a typical policy does not cover the cost of after-market customizations. Your agent will help you determine if you need custom parts and equipment coverage.

Other coverages you may also want to consider are towing and roadside assistance, as well as lease/loan gap options.

The short answer is ... it depends. If you have a claim that is simple, and you agree that you did, in fact, give permission to your friend, simple claims may be covered under your recreational insurance. If the claim gets complex, meaning maybe there was property damage or personal injury, the expenses for fixing the property damage or medical bills may not be covered by your insurance. Our agents are experts in consulting around these types of scenarios. They’re here to help you make informed choices about your insurance options.

Using your typical auto policy can have its advantages and limitations when it comes to insuring a collector car. Here are some considerations:

  • You can typically keep your collector car on a standard auto policy:
    • If you have an appraisal and keep it reasonably current.
    • If your collector car is not highly specialized or customized, and if your insurance company has photos and appraisal on file.
  • You may want to consider a separate antique/collector car policy when:
    • You want to have a guaranteed or agreed upon value for your antique car.
    • Your antique car is not driven as a hobby car, and you store it within a locked garage, rather than in your driveway.
    • You have a claim and you want an insurance adjuster that specializes in antique/collector cars.
